In case you haven’t noticed just about everything is in bloom or about to right now! What also is happening is very normal and to be expected. Many of you have called concerned about lots of leaves turning yellow and falling off of “sub tropical” plants like hibiscus, citrus, and oleander. This is completely normal and of no concern if the amount of foliage dropping and or turning yellow is about 1/3 or less of the total foliage on the plant. These warm weather growers are pushing new growth and or blooming and they are ridding themselves of older growth at the same time. If the amount of leaf drop exceeds the new foliage replacing it then you might have a problem. Generally this would be due to lack of nutrients, specifically nitrogen. If you haven’t fertilized in a while perhaps this would be a good weekend to do so. Remember in general Valentine’s Day, Memorial Day, and Labor day or there abouts are great times to fertilize. We recommend those days because they are just ahead of times plants are pushing new growth or about to and or are recovering from periods of stress. So if you’ve got some yellow, don’t panic-FEED IT!!
