Yes it might be hotter than we’d like, but we live in a place where we can garden, improve our landscape, and enjoy our outdoor living space year round. Even with a forecast high near record levels today I am sitting outside on my patio writing this at a very comfortable 75 degrees. Try doing that in the Mid West in December. Yes The Harper Boys like to compare this gardening season in the desert to Winter in places back East! It is in fact our most inhospitable time of year for the garden and landscape much like the dead of winter in cold climates, yet there are many beautiful heat loving plants available and ready to thrive in your garden. Above you’ll find some helpful resources on how to best garden and or take care of your garden this time of year. Of course you can and should call or come by and get this information first hand from us as well!! Also the pictures below were taken yesterday in the nursery-try finding plants that look like that in Michigan in January!!

Be on the look out for: Grape leaf skeletonizers, Pearl Scale,Spider Mites, and other critters that might be invading your garden. We’ve also been seeing lots of leaf cutter bee activity as well. Leaves that look like swiss cheese means cutter bees!
Control spurge in your lawn and landscape as soon as you see it. It already has seed on it more than likely so be careful not to spread it by mowing or carelessly pulling. Dimension is the best pre emergent control for long term success in eliminating spurge!
