Mid March Gardening Tips
Plant: tomatoes,peppers,squash,cucumbers, Plant color zinnias,marigolds,geraniums,lobelia,osteospermum,gerbera daisies… plant blooming shrubs and vines: lantana, bougainvillea, mexican bird of paradise, cape honeysuckle, penstemon, (the list would take the whole newsletter! Got Shade-plant a tree now and you will-oaks, mesquite,sumac,acacia,elms…. Stop Those Weeds-spray or pull weeds while they’re young-after the rain 10 days ago, the weeds are going to go wild-be ready and be careful what you use. There are lots of commercials out there touting weed control. some of those products are actually “sterilizers” and are not safe to use around desirable vegetation. Bring a sample of your weeds in and we’ll advise you on what to use! Use a pre emergent now and again this fall and you can prevent a whole bunch of these and save yourself lots of time!! Continue to fertilize winter lawns, citrus, and all your trees and shrubs now. Fertilize roses if they have begun to leaf out-feed roses once a month Look for aphids, mites, caterpillars, and other unwanted pests. They love spring weather too!
