Real fall like temps are here now and looks like we’re in for great seasonal temperatures for a while! Don’t know about you, but it seemed like they’d never get here! So what do we do in the garden now?
Perfect temps for planting winter veggies-any leafy green or root crop!
Winter flowers: geraniums, pansies, petunias, stock, snaps, alyssum, lobelia,poppies…..its a very long list-come in and we’ll show you!!
If you’ve mowed your winter lawn twice please fertilize it. It’s important that you get it fed before the colder weather hits and “yellows” it out. It can be very hard to green back up if that happens. Ideally you should fertilize every 30 days-we can even set up a system that feeds every time you water-ask us!!
Plant Trees!! warm soils and cooler days and nights are the perfect combination for planting and establishing most trees and shrubs. Think about it these are spring like temperatures and conditions for a lot of the country with the warm soil thrown in for rapid root growth!
Adjust your water system again-We’ve had some rain and the nights are very cool and much longer, there isn’t much moisture loss from the plants right now, this is when you can really start saving on the water bill!
Apply pre emergent herbicides-if the experts are correct and we have an “el nino” you’ll be glad you did!
Fertilize your roses lightly one more time to get those huge late fall blooms (maybe the best of the year)-don’t prune them back yet-wait til mid January!
Enjoy the great weather- get out and plant something and create memories, legacy, and the garden of your dreams! If you need help-call us we’d love to help you have the garden you’ve always dreamed about!
