Yep it’s hot, but if you want a great fall vegetable or flower garden the key is to be prepared to plant when it’s not so hot. Starting now and doing it a little at a time makes the task less daunting and generally you’ll do a better job.
The Harper Boys recommendation for fall planting prep is pretty simple- for every 100 square feet of garden: add 4-6 bags of Hickman’s compost, 10 lbs of gypsum, and 2-4 lbs of organic fertilizer like Hickman’s 4-2-2, or Dr. Earth. Once you’ve tilled or incorporated these materials into the soil thoroughly and watered well a time or two you’re good to go. The next question is what to plant when?
