If you have any Tecoma-Yellow Bells, or Orange Jubillee, any Bougainvilleas and even Ash trees start looking for damged foliage. This infestation seems to be going on in all of southern Arizona. A caterpillar of some type, exact i.d. is being determined by the UofA as we speek, is chomping away at these plants. The damage is extreme and seems to happen in a matter of a few days. The caterpillar also appears to be nocturnal so you have a hard time finding them in the daylight hours.
If you find damage applying any of the following treatments will work: B.T. or Thuricide aka Dipel in the dust form, Spinosad, Carbaryl,or ferti lome “triple action”.
The “yellow bells” pictured was vibrant and healthy, in full bloom, a week ago. Today there is not a leaf on it!
