After a long hot summer, they all are, those of us who spend a great deal of time outside look for any sign we can that Fall is here or is very near. The nights are longer and cooler now for one thing, and the Sun has a different angle to it for sure. One sign that is not so positive but is very definitely a prognosticator of Fall is Citrus fruit split. This Navel Orange came in to the nursery yesterday. Citrus is taking its clue from nature that it is time to “size up”. Some of the fruit which is located on the hot side of the tree and is exposed to the sun has a sun burned spot on it that won’t expand and it splits. This is usually not a cause for great concern as it just happens to a few fruit who have the misfortune of being in the wrong place on the tree! Like I said we’ll take any sign we can get that Fall is right around the corner!
You can get more tips like this by attending our 3rd Saturday Harper’s Garden Club meeting at 10 am @ both locations tomorrow. We will meet every 3rd Saturday from now until May and have many interesting guests like the Pond Gnome to talk about ponds and the City of Mesa to show you how to compost in your own back yard! Hope to see you tomorrow-Good Growin’.
